Goodbye

Well it seems that we are here! End of the school year, time to make plans for the summer and look forward to next year. For the seniors it’s the end of their high school road, time to begin the rugged journey they call life. But for the rising seniors, juniors, and for the sophomores, there’s much more to come.

On Thursday June 10, 2010, the 09-10 year will be laid to rest. It’s been a long year, a ton a of laughs, a lot of cries, and many smiles. Richmond High School this year encountered and faced many difficult situations, nevertheless, it remains a very close community. Between the awful media attention that the school and the students had to endure, to the untimely deaths of numerous RHS students, the students and staff went through some of the most difficult of times -which only contributed to the an increment in unity and cooperation.

However, not only where there bad things but great ones as well! They constantly reminded everyone at RHS of the potential they have for a brighter future. Some students, for example, will have the opportunity to take their education to the next level, some will be receiving scholarships, and Richmond has seen its test scores rise to the top. As Lawrence Bridget, a rising senior, put it “ it was a good year even when it was a . . . disappointing at times.” In addition Bridget mentions- he looks [forward] to playing  “football [next year]… and being a senior too!”

Every year it’s the same thing, tear filled goodbyes and a long summer break before the first day of a new year.  As a junior myself, I can testify that it’s been a long couple of years, let alone this one by its self. Like all the other juniors I am “excited” about being a senior, but also a little scared. It has been hard, and sort of like an endless pit.  But if nothing else these past years have been huge learning lessons. As much I hate to say it,  this year is over, so until next year… Goodbye.
