Friday, August 13- Grades 11 and 12 from 9 AM- Noon

Grade 10 from 2 PM- 5 PM

Monday, August 16- Grade 9 from 9 AM- Noon

Make -Up for ALL grades from 2 PM- 5 PM

*STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE TO MEET AT THE LITTLE THEATRE FOR A BRIEFING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND A REVIEW OF ALL THE FORMS THEY ARE TO FILL OUT.

At Walk- Thru, students who have changed their address are to present a PG&E bill to confirm their new address. In addition, for those students, even incoming 9thgraders, who have unpaid bills this will be a chance to clear their bills or else they will not be able to go through the rest of the event. Students will also have the chance to purchase P.E. clothes and a lock , $25.oo is enough for the basics. Concerning ID’s, students will take their picture during Walk-Thru and will be able to pick them up by August 19, at which point they will be able to pick-up their textbooks.

Over the course of this summer three of Richmond High School’s (RHS) students, Lucero Perez, Guadalupe Morales, and Selene Calderon, will spend two weeks in the East Coast touring colleges and attending Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Their experiences and those of three El Cerrito High School students also participating in the Women and Leadership course can be found at http://2010-ilc-at-brown.blogspot.com/. All six students post a daily blog describing their day, what they have done/learned, and what else might be on their mind. Come and see for yourself the experience that these students have been able to have through the help of the Ivy League Connection (ILC). On this site there are also links to the blogs of ILC students at other prestigious schools for the summer, also from the West Contra Costa Unified School District.

A story concerning the process that the RHS students went through in order to get this oppurtunity is also available at http://rhsnewswire.net/home/?p=530

Any questions concerning Brown University please leave a comment.

Well it seems that we are here! End of the school year, time to make plans for the summer and look forward to next year. For the seniors it’s the end of their high school road, time to begin the rugged journey they call life. But for the rising seniors, juniors, and for the sophomores, there’s much more to come.

On Thursday June 10, 2010, the 09-10 year will be laid to rest. It’s been a long year, a ton a of laughs, a lot of cries, and many smiles. Richmond High School this year encountered and faced many difficult situations, nevertheless, it remains a very close community. Between the awful media attention that the school and the students had to endure, to the untimely deaths of numerous RHS students, the students and staff went through some of the most difficult of times -which only contributed to the an increment in unity and cooperation.

However, not only where there bad things but great ones as well! They constantly reminded everyone at RHS of the potential they have for a brighter future. Some students, for example, will have the opportunity to take their education to the next level, some will be receiving scholarships, and Richmond has seen its test scores rise to the top. As Lawrence Bridget, a rising senior, put it “ it was a good year even when it was a . . . disappointing at times.” In addition Bridget mentions- he looks [forward] to playing “football [next year]… and being a senior too!”

Every year it’s the same thing, tear filled goodbyes and a long summer break before the first day of a new year. As a junior myself, I can testify that it’s been a long couple of years, let alone this one by its self. Like all the other juniors I am “excited” about being a senior, but also a little scared. It has been hard, and sort of like an endless pit. But if nothing else these past years have been huge learning lessons. As much I hate to say it, this year is over, so until next year… Goodbye.

Several booths were lined at the main entrance of the school with representatives from such institutions as Western Career College, UC Davis, and Wyotech. Richmond High School held a College and Career fair on Thursday, May 20th,2010. These representatives offered interested students with a walk through of their individual colleges. Students also had the chance to ask questions concerning admission requirements, campus life, cost, etc. Blanca Hernandez, the organizer for Advancement, Motor,Alliance&Cause(A.M.A.Ca) says “I pursue a lot of advocation for AB540 scholarships for undocumented students.” Blanca’s organization helps undocumented students get higher learning advantages, which in the U.S. are a necessity. Normally, undocumented students only have a partial chance of getting a scholarship to go to college. Robert Hickerson from UC Davis says “Many student activities help you gain experiences for your career.” UC Davis is a college located in Davis, California. Yvonne Steffen says “Clark University is a very well known campus , I went to Clark.” A lot of information was given about these campuses which you may find on their websites.
