As noted in Trending Now’s article, Missouri couple uses ‘words with friends’ to save man’s life in Australia, by Melissa Knowles; Simon Fletcher’s life was saved because his wife, Georgie Fletcher, was playing the game words with friends. Georgie began playing the game with Beth Leglar and eventually a friendship was created. One day during a game Georgie mentioned that her husband was not feeling too well and described Simon’s symptoms to Beth who in turn reported them to her husband, Larry. Larry just so happened to be a doctor and immediately came up with a diagnosis; he instructed Beth to tell Georgie to take her husband to the hospital. At the Hospital Georgie and Simon found out that he had a 99 percent blockage near his heart and if it had gone untreated it would’ve killed him. Georgie and Simon were truly grateful to have met Beth on “Words with friends.”

It has been noted by the story “Mainstream Media Conspiracy Against Ron Paul,” on the website In5d.com, by Gregg Prescott, that the mainstream media news outlets have shown little interest in the presidential campaign of one particular candidate: Ron Paul. A congressman from Texas, Ron Paul has been ignored by news media analyst as a serious candidate to win the Republican nomination and presidency. In the article by Gregg Prescott, he points out the recent “disrespect to the military and Ron Paul’s Campaign.” On the day of the Iowa caucus, Corporal Jesse Thorsen was being interviewed by CNN’s Dana Bash concerning the risk of electing a candidate such as Ron Paul to the presidency given the fact that he wants to bring troops back home. Corporal Thorsen responded with “Well I think it would be even more dangerous to start nitpicking wars with other countries, someone like Iran – ” when all of a sudden the signal was interrupted and his last words cut off from the national audience. As Mr. Prescott notes, “Keep in mind that the signal was lost, not the video that was taken.” The rest of the video has not been replayed to this day. Just how much has been kept secret from the public? Mr. Prescott goes on to point out how the “Iowas GOP decided it would move the vote tallying to an “undisclosed location.” How convenient; I thought this was a public election?
Perhaps it isn’t just the news media outlets who are denying Ron Paul a fair shot at the republican nomination, but the Republicans themselves. Corporations have contributed to Mitt Romney’s campaign by donated large amounts of money including Goldman Sachs ($195,250), Morgan Stanley ($185,800), Bank of America ($121,500), JP Morgan Chase ($109,750), Credit Suisse Group ($195,250), and Citigroup ($56,550). Aren’t these some of the same banks who congress had to bailout and who caused the economic downfall? Its seems these corporations can act as people and control elections with their enormous contributions to candidates. Mr. Prescott goes on to point out something more controversial that will most likely discredit the hole story among most Republicans; a Zionist bias. According to the report, the Israelis need American military support in the middle east, something that Ron Paul is against. Other claims are presented that make one wonder–is there really a conspiracy against Ron Paul? Could the new media really be controlled by Zionist who are afraid Ron Paul will be dangerous to their movement? Controversy seems to be the motto as the race heads towards New Hampshire and South Carolina, where once again it seems the race is going to be highly contested.

According to NPR article,Obama to offer Deficit Reduction proposal, by Mara Liasson and Renee Montagne Obama gave the Pentagon an unusual visit to propose a new military budget. The pentagon accepted his proposal and announced the new Military budget strategy to the public on Thursday December, 29th. The goal is to cut a whopping half a trillion dollars while making sure the Military can still meet any threat. It also calls for a new focus on the far east; shifting Us troops, planes, and air craft towards Asia Pacific in order to keep a close eye on China. The plan is to cut funds from the Army and Marine Corps; officials say the Army will drop by some 70,000 troops. While the Army will shrink, other parts of the military will receive more funding, that includes special operations commandos like the Navy SEALS who killed Osama bin Laden and the unmanned drone aircraft that bombed Al-Qaida hideouts in Pakistan, since they have been more successful in their operations. Now we can only hope that this will be a beneficial change in America.

Six brothers claim to have been sexually abused by a priest 36 years ago and are now asking the supreme court to let them sue the catholic diocese. If the supreme court sides with the brothers there could be new long-ago victims also making lawsuits against the catholic church. Donald Broderson, who had been accused of the molestation was forced to retire from his job as the diocese of the catholic church because of the abuse allegation in 1993 and later died in 2010. As for the lawsuit, the brothers could not sue the church since in California, the filing of a civil claim of sexual abuse must be made within 8 years of the age of majority (meaning before your 26th birthday) and these brothers are 50 and 40 years of age. The lawyer of the brothers though, says that this age bar does not apply to them because they had just recently discovered that because of the molestation there lives have been messed up.

Music can be a beautiful way to express emotions. With music it is possible to portray many feelings such as love, hope, hatred, a loss, or even the color of a sweater. To many people listening to music is enjoyable and only view or use it for mere entertainment, but to others, music can be life itself. Josh Williamson an 11th grader who is a student at Richmond High School (RHS) says that music can portray “stories of a life” and that to him “music is passion and [he] strives for it.” Josh is currently the bass player of the RHS music band, he has been playing bass for the past 4 years and says that he enjoys it very much. Josh not only knows how to play the bass but the guitar and drums as well, he said that he “discovered his passion for music [when he] was ten years old and ever since [has] been creating [his] own music.” The first instrument that Josh learned to play was the guitar, “My pastor taught me the basics but I learned the rest by myself,” says Josh, also stating that “listening to bands like Metallica, Slayer, Three days Grace and Seether inspire [him] to create [his] own music.” Josh’s great passion for music makes him play everyday and practice Monday-Friday, his favorite music genre is Rock and Metal with Bring Me the Horizon as his favorite music band. For Josh Williamson music indeed: “is life itself.”
There are many students at RHS that use music as a way to express their emotions. For example, Cristian Ponce an 11th grader who also has a great passion for music, Cristian discovered his great admiration and passion for it since he was very young because “music in [his] opinion portrays feelings and emotions” but hadn’t learned how to play any instruments until now. Cristian learned on his own how to play the guitar, piano and bass and has now been playing for 6 years, dedicating 5 hours every day to practicing. “What inspires me to play is love, hope, and my friend Jocelyn” says Christian. For Christian Ponce there is no particular music genre that interests him most as he “just [plays] multiple styles” but he certainly does agree with Josh Williamson that “Music is life”
There can be so many ways to express our feelings and emotions through music, either by singing, playing an instrument or by writing a melody, music is a universal thing and who knows maybe music is life!

The basis of pride lies deep within the human brain. Sometimes human beings try – sometimes too hard- to rationalize their actions by saying that it’s ‘human behavior.’ Pride is an emotion that comes from the heart, as it is fueled by our inner senses. Emotions are related to human behavior since they influence our actions, for example when we feel happy we tend to do well; or when our pride makes us angry we tend to let out that emotion with violence. The actions we take based on our emotions, however, vary from culture to culture. An example can be the machismo, or the manliness and excessive pride practiced among Latin American Countries. In my family some of the machismo has faded since leaving the small town setting of Michoacan, Mexico, the home state of my parents. If someone approaches you and threatens you or your family, then if you felt it necessary to act, well, ‘you gotta do what you gotta do’ as in: self-defense. Yet in Brian Hernandez’s house, pride influences more their need for leaving a good impression on guests, for example, rather than on masculinity. When visiting his family, they treated me with respect and refrained Brian from any type of misconduct in front of us. It demonstrated how important pride continues to be in different cultures, even in modern times they still manage to maintain their own unique traditions. It’s something a lot of people face; that decision of whether or not you hold on to your families pride or just forget about it; it can make you or break you.
In some ways pride instigates violence as it is something people try to protect. It runs in most families, as every member strives to protect it and expand it. Many cultures can vary as to how much violence they use to maintain the pride and integrity of their family. Using physical violence as punishment is the result of this. Hitting a child in some places of the world is not considered improper but necessary to teach that child a lesson. How does this all go back to pride and violence? Well, from time to time we have parents whose image is reflected on the discipline and success of their family. If one family has a child that does not have manners, chances are the parents will try and set him straight. In my family that might include physical punishment. Yet, some children that suffer from these “lessons” do not experience it physically but mentally. In some occasions that child might be traumatized and become unhappy, and in other cases that child might take the “lessons” the wrong way and become violent themselves. On some occasions the importance of pride can cause people to overlook logical reasoning. Being too prideful can be more harmful to the people around you than beneficial.
